Cenotaph, a pioneering death metal band from Mexico, has played a crucial role in shaping the Latin American extreme metal scene since its formation in the late 1980s. Their 1993 album The “Gloomy Reflection of Our Hidden Sorrows” stands as one of the genre’s landmark releases in the region, blending brutal, intricate songwriting with raw, atmospheric heaviness. Influential in defining the distinctive death metal sound emerging from Mexico in the early ’90s, “The Gloomy Reflection of Our Hidden Sorrows” also paved the way for the growth of the South American underground death metal movement.
Over 3 decades after its initial release, Cenotaph will perform the album “The Gloomy Reflection of Our Hidden Sorrows” in its entirety at Maryland Deathfest XX, May 22—25, 2025 in Baltimore.
