The Swedish death metal supergroup Bloodbath emerged on the extreme metal scene in 1998. Formed as a project by renowned musicians with affiliations to iconic bands such as Opeth and Katatonia, Bloodbath quickly gained recognition for their brutal and uncompromising approach to death metal. The original lineup included Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), Anders Nyström (Katatonia), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), and Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity). Eventually with Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost), Martin Axenrot (ex-Opeth) and Tomas Åkvik (ex-Katatonia) joining the ranks, Bloodbath maintained a commitment to delivering raw, old-school death metal with a contemporary edge.

Bloodbath’s discography stands as a testament to their dedication to death metal. The band’s debut album, “Resurrection Through Carnage” (2002), marked a significant milestone, establishing them as a force in the death metal scene. Subsequent releases like “Nightmares Made Flesh” (2004) and “The Fathomless Mastery” (2008) further solidified their position, showcasing a blend of brutal riffing, guttural vocals, and precise instrumentation. The band’s ability to evolve while staying true to their roots is evident in albums like “Grand Morbid Funeral” (2014), “The Arrow of Satan Is Drawn” (2018) and more recently “Survival of the Sickest” (2022) which continued to garner acclaim from fans and critics alike.
