Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Agalloch emerged in the mid-1990s as a seminal force in the American metal scene. Agalloch’s music defies easy categorization, blending elements of black metal, folk, ambient, and post-rock. Their atmospheric soundscapes, characterized by intricate guitar work, haunting melodies, and profound lyrical themes inspired by nature and existentialism, garnered them a dedicated following worldwide.
Throughout their career, Agalloch released a series of critically acclaimed albums, starting with their debut “Pale Folklore” in 1999, followed by “The Mantle” (2002), “Ashes Against the Grain” (2006), and “Marrow of the Spirit” (2010). Their discography showcased their evolution as musicians, with each album delving deeper into experimental territories while maintaining their signature sound. After a hiatus following their fifth studio album “The Serpent & the Sphere” (2014), the band announced their disbandment, leaving fans saddened by the end of an era.
Their reunion in 2022 and much-anticipated deluxe reissues of their back catalogue on Eisenwald starting with “Pale Folklore” brought joy to fans worldwide and reignited the flame of their collective musical journey. Known for their atmospheric stage presence and emotionally charged renditions, the Portland band will soon draw the Maryland Deathfest audience into their world of introspection and melancholy with an exclusive East Coast performance.
