German Thrash Metal Pioneers Return to US soil
October 12—13, 2024 @ California Deathfest, Oakland CA
Sodom, hailing from Gelsenkirchen, Germany, emerged in the early 1980s as a pivotal force in thrash metal. Founded by bassist and vocalist Tom Angelripper, the band quickly gained recognition for their aggressive sound and socially critical lyrics. Alongside peers like Kreator and Destruction, Sodom became a leader in the Teutonic thrash movement, influencing countless metal acts worldwide with themes of war, politics, and societal decay.
Their discography features seminal albums that shaped the thrash landscape, starting with “Obsessed by Cruelty” (1986) and evolving through classics like “Persecution Mania” (1987) and “Agent Orange” (1989). In 2016, Sodom reunited with guitarist Frank Blackfire, producing their latest studio album, “Genesis XIX” (2020), which showcases their ability to deliver intense, thrash-infused metal with a modern edge.
Sodom’s live performances are marked by explosive energy and relentless stage presence. With Angelripper’s commanding performance, their shows provide a visceral experience that reinforces their legendary status in thrash metal. Now, with US visas secured in cooperation with Maryland Deathfest, Sodom is set to deliver captivating performances to North American fans.
