German Thrash Metal Pioneers Return to US soil

October 12—13, 2024 @ California Deathfest, Oakland CA

Sodom, hailing from Gelsenkirchen, Germany, emerged in the early 1980s as a pivotal force in the thrash metal genre. Founded by bassist and vocalist Tom Angelripper, the band quickly garnered attention for their uncompromisingly aggressive sound and socially critical lyrics. Alongside peers like Kreator and Destruction, Sodom became one of the leading bands in the Teutonic thrash movement, influencing countless metal acts worldwide. Their impact extends beyond their music, as they’ve often tackled themes of war, politics, and societal decay, earning them a devoted following in the metal community.

The discography of Sodom is marked by a series of seminal albums that defined the thrash metal landscape. Beginning with “Obsessed by Cruelty” (1986), Sodom established their ferocious style, evolving with albums like “Persecution Mania” (1987) and “Agent Orange” (1989), which are considered classics of the genre. In 2016, after several lineup changes and periods of hiatus, Sodom staged a reunion of sorts with the return of guitarist Frank Blackfire, who had previously played on “Persecution Mania” and “Agent Orange.” This reinvigorated lineup produced their latest studio album, “Genesis XIX,” released in 2020, showcasing Sodom’s enduring ability to deliver intense, thrash-infused metal with a contemporary edge.

Live performances are where Sodom’s legacy truly thrives, characterized by their explosive energy and relentless stage presence. With Tom Angelripper’s commanding presence and the band’s unyielding dedication to their craft, Sodom’s live shows remain a visceral experience that reinforces their legendary status in thrash metal history. Having finally managed to secure US visa in cooperation with Maryland Deathfest, German legends are ready to delivery another set of captivating shows to the North American maniacs!
