Forged in Belo Horizonte’s late-’80s pressure cooker, Sarcófago helped hardwire extremity into metal’s DNA, fusing thrash speed, punk abrasion, and a blackened nihilism that echoed far beyond Brazil. The spine of Sarcófago’s legacy is “I.N.R.I.” (1987), a genre-shifting eruption whose raw velocity and venom helped define the early language of blackened extremity, while later classics sharpened that feral core into tighter weapons. “The Laws of Scourge” (1991) brought more structure and thrash muscle without losing hostility, and their most recent studio album “Hate” (1994) doubled down on stripped, relentless brutality, standing as a stark, uncompromising late chapter in the band’s original arc. Taken together, these records form a direct line from underground chaos to the global template for extreme metal.
