Founded in Chicago in 1989, Novembers Doom have become stalwarts of American death doom, steadily evolving their sound over three decades into a refined hybrid they call dark metal. Their longevity and innovation have made them one of the genre’s most respected and enduring names.
Their twelfth full-length, “Major Arcana” (2025), arrives six years after “Nephilim Grove” and finds the band exploring tarot-inspired themes with conceptual depth and rich storytelling. This ambitious work underscores their continued growth and creativity, reinforcing their position as visionaries within dark metal. Their earlier catalog, including the formative debut “Amid Its Hallowed Mirth” (1995), laid the foundation for their journey from pure death doom to the atmospheric blend they command today. Each era of their discography reflects progression without sacrificing the weight and melancholy that define them.
